The word ‘green’ has been around for centuries, but it is often associated with medicinal benefits.
The term was first used in the 18th century to describe plants that have the ability to help with digestion, headaches and other digestive problems.
“There are people who use green tea to relieve their pains, it is a really helpful tea and a really great tea to have,” Dr Zimbalist says.
“It is a very calming and a very soothing tea.”
A Green Tea Experience in Australia This is a blend of green tea and black tea that has been made by local growers, which are now selling in Australia.
It contains a blend known as The Green Tea Effect.
It’s said to have calming effects, especially on headaches and asthma.
“I think that if you drink a lot of tea and you are getting a lot out of it, that you are just actually feeling a lot better about yourself,” Dr Zubbalist explains.
“And you can do that because it’s calming and that’s what it does.”
She says the tea has been proven to improve blood pressure, reduce the risk of diabetes, prevent cancer and even help prevent dementia.
What’s in a Green Tea?
Green tea is a tea that contains the alkaloids kaempferol, which has been linked to the prevention of cancer, and kaempvaloic acid, which is known to help regulate blood sugar levels.
“We don’t know exactly what is in green tea, we know that it is the tea leaves,” Dr Zimmer says.
It is also thought that it has antioxidant properties, with some research suggesting that it may be able to prevent free radicals.
Green tea can also help you feel better when you have a cold, but that can be difficult to find in Australia due to health regulations.
Dr Zimmer recommends buying a green tea with a cup of water and adding it to your diet.
“A cup of tea with some water in it and you can feel better,” she says.
And while green tea is known for its calming effects when consumed in moderation, Dr Zubball says there are many benefits to drinking it.
“If you’re not a big fan of tea, then you can just take it with you and it’s great,” she adds.
Dr Zubbals’ latest study has found that green tea can help reduce the risks of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and even cancer.
